We Hear That Life is Special

We hear that life is special

That life is too short to waste

What we truly hear is that with each breath we breathe

In each wisp of air we thoughtlessly drag in

There is always more time

Yet every second that ticks by is like a bullet speeding towards its target

Days blow by as fast as it takes for lightening to hit the ground

And as we stand in a field awaiting to see the unfiltered beauty of electricity

We blink

Missing when power touches Earth

Angrily, we turn our glare to the heavens

We cry out, “No, wait. I missed it!”

Thunder blares through the clouds, answering our sizzling words with its own

“Lightening never strikes in the same place twice”

As we lift our hands to shake our fists

The bullet finds its mark and time begins to bleed away

We hear that life is special

That life is too short to waste

But with every breath we breathe

In each puff of air we haggardly gasp out

We ask for a second chance
